Why is a meet & greet required?
‘Meet and greets’ provide an opportunity for the Fit Fido team, owner and Fido to meet. At this point we will discuss your needs and requirements, review your Fido Forms and talk about our plan for Fido's sessions. We want to ensure you are comfortable with the team member who is entering your home and caring for your Fido.
Training.
What age can training start?
Once your Fido has their vaccinations we can start training. This is generally around 8 weeks old.
What training method is used?
Our training is fun, positive and reward based. Our trainers are highly qualified in dog obedience and behavioural training. We offer honest and common sense advice that aims to create a better relationship between owner and Fido. We only use gentle methods to train your Fido, and never negative or harsh techniques. All training is tailored to suit your dog’s behavioural needs and your lifestyle.
How long will it take to train my Fido?
Every Fido is different in how fast they learn, and each behaviour will take time to correct. You cannot put a time limit on dog training. If you are committed and consistent, your Fido will learn at their own pace and you will see changes.
What are the benefits of individual training?
Group classes can be overwhelming for some Fidos. To give the best results in a less stressful way, one on one training is often a great solution. This will ensure both you and your Fido have the necessary skills to then succeed in a group class or the wider world. We also come to you which is great for those who are time poor or have mobility challenges. One on one training is a tailored approach to ensure you get what is most useful for your Fido.
Do I need to be involved in training?
We recommend owners are involved in Fido’s learning and training. Fit Fido training plans can be tailored for the time poor to the hands on owner. While Fit Fido trainers can work with your Fido in one on one sessions, to get the best out of training, owners need to be part of their learning - from participating in training sessions to reinforcing the learnings over time. We email follow up homework to Fido after each session to capture what we learned and what to practice.
What qualifications do you have?
The Fit Fido team are trained dog handlers with Animal First Aid certificates.
Our Head Trainer is a retired Veteran of the Royal Australian Air Force. In the RAAF she was a Military Working Dog Handler and Trainer - and has over 10 years of experience in dog obedience and behaviour. A personal passion for health and fitness is embedded everything she does at Fit Fido, and provides the energy to keep up with Fido’s of all abilities and energy levels!

Walking.
Do you walk in bad weather?
We walk in most weather conditions including rain. We towel dry your Fido on wet weather days. In cases of very heavy rain or storming we will substitute a walk with an indoor or undercover play session. We want your Fido to stay cool, so we do not walk in very hot weather. All walks go ahead as long as it is considered safe to do so. You will be notified if a walk needs to be rescheduled at no charge. Our cancellation policy applies if outside of the 24 hour notice period.
Who will walk my dog?
All Fit Fido walkers are not only dog lovers, but are professionally trained dog handlers. This means your Fido is in the best hands. We believe it is important your dog has the same walker each time so that they can become familiar. You will be advised if there is any change to this. All employees have Animal First Aid training, National Police Certificate’s and hold public liability insurance.
What happens on walks?
We know that walk’s are one of Fido’s favourite times of the day. We only walk 1-2 Fidos at a time. We walk on-leash unless safe to do so and only with your pre-approval. We provide dog waste bags which are fully biodegradable and disposed of responsibly. We ask you to supply your Fido’s regular collar or harness and lead. We gather information about your Fido and things we need to be aware of on walks at your initial Meet & Greet. We send you a photo of our walk and tell you about what we did so there is no Fido FOMO.
Home Visits.
Who are home visits suitable for?
Home visits are suitable for those who are out for the day, have mobility issues, or are time poor and who want to give some extra love and attention to their Fido.
One or more visits per day can be booked to suit your Fido’s schedule. Home visits are not a suitable replacement for pet sitting or kennelling while you are away or on holidays.
Home visits are suitable for a maximum of 3 Fidos at the same residence. Our Home Visit service includes care for 1 Fido, additional Fidos will incur ‘add on’ fee.
How do home visits work?
At your initial meet & greet the Fit Fido team member will chat with you about your Fido and needs. We will review your Fido Forms and confirm access details. Access to your home and or outdoor areas will be required as part of this service. All of the Fit Fido team are fully police checked, and hold public liability insurance.
Home access: We highly recommend that you provide a key lockbox. This minimises the risk of misplacing a key and ensures it is always in the same location. House keys should be provided rather than garage remotes. This will allow access to your home in the case of a power outage. Other access and security details should be provided to Fit Fido at your initial meet and greet.
